Philly Cheesesteak Skillet (One Skillet Meal)

Listen…I still want flavor, I still want comfort food, and I still want my meals to actually feel satisfying. That’s exactly why this Philly cheesesteak skillet has been on repeat over here lately. It has all the flavors of a classic cheesesteak without leaving you feeling weighed down afterward.

I made this with steak stir fry strips, bell peppers, onions, mushrooms, provolone, and mozzarella cheese. But the real flavor comes from the seasoning combo. I used low-sodium Cajun seasoning, Italian seasoning, Trader Joe’s Aglio Olio seasoning, coconut aminos, chili crunch oil, and the Badia 14 Spices No Salt seasoning blend. The chili crunch oil and coconut aminos together gave the steak SO much flavor without needing a ton of sodium.

I served mine over cauliflower rice with asparagus, mushrooms, and a little Parmesan cheese mixed in, and honestly? It was SO good and super filling. But what I love most about this recipe is how versatile it is. If you’re not cutting carbs, throw it on a hoagie roll and make a full Philly cheesesteak. You could also stuff this into quesadillas, wrap it in tortillas for Philly cheesesteak fajitas, serve it over zucchini noodles, or even meal prep it for the week. This is definitely one of those “make it your own” type meals.

And if you’re trying to eat healthier but still want food that feels comforting and flavorful, this is your reminder that healthy food does not have to be boring. Sometimes it’s really just about making smarter swaps while still cooking food you actually enjoy eating.

What you'll need

1–1½ lbs beef steak stir fry strips

1 green bell pepper, sliced

1 red bell pepper, sliced

1 onion, sliced

8 oz mushrooms, sliced

Provolone cheese

Shredded mozzarella cheese

Olive oil or avocado oil

Seasonings & Flavor

Low-sodium Cajun seasoning

Italian seasoning

Trader Joe’s Aglio Olio seasoning

Trader Joe’s Coconut Aminos

Trader Joe’s Chili Crunch Oil

Badia Complete No Salt / 14 Spice blend

Black pepper

What to do:

Step 1: Season the steak

Pat your steak strips dry first.

Add them to a bowl and season generously with:

Low-sodium Cajun seasoning

Italian seasoning

Trader Joe’s Aglio Olio seasoning

Badia No Salt seasoning

Small drizzle of coconut aminos

Small spoonful/drizzle of chili crunch oil

Black pepper

Mix everything together really well so every piece of steak is coated.

Let it sit while you prep your vegetables.

Step 2: Sear the steak

Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add a little oil.

Cook the steak in batches so it gets browned instead of steamed.

Let it sit untouched for a minute before stirring so you get that color and flavor.

Remove steak from the skillet and set aside.

Step 3: Cook the vegetables

In the same skillet, add:

Bell peppers

Onions

Mushrooms

Season vegetables with:

Italian seasoning

Little bit of Cajun seasoning

Cook until softened and slightly caramelized.

The mushrooms should cook down and the onions should get a little golden.

Step 4: Bring it together

Add the steak back into the skillet with the vegetables.

Mix everything together and let it cook another 1–2 minutes so all the flavors come together.

Step 5: Add the cheese

Top the skillet with:

Provolone cheese

Mozzarella cheese

Cover with a lid until melted and gooey.

That’s it.
